DC: All social media outlets and digital retailers including iTunes.com

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?

DC: Vocally it would be Chris Cornell. I just love his character, note selection and lyrical canvas. He has only grown as an inspiration for me. Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Live, all influences **for me. Love me some Sarah McLaughlin too.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music business?

DC: There is no “Best”, there is only “you”. Never stop learning and create from the heart.

What piece of advice did you ignore that you wish you hadn’t?

DC: Not sure, I learned most everything the hard way haha.

Do you have a greatest gig story or worst gig horror story you’d like to share?

DC: I’ve had some tough nights up there where it seemed everything was going wrong. Technical difficulties are the worst, as a performer there is nothing you can do about it. One show we (Eye Empire) were playing in Houston, the guitar rig went out 3 notes into the first song. We had to finish the song with just drum, bass and vocal. Talk about being left out in the open haha.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Make sock puppets? Sit in the dark and eat Cheetos?

DC: I love baseball. That’s not really a hobby but I keep up with it like a hobby. I’m a stat guy.

What do you think about the current music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

DC: I’m not sure, I mean, some of it’s good and some of it’s ridiculous. That’s nothing new, what’s new is the way it’s covered. We will always find ourselves at a growing point…a moment in history where we have to make a decision on what the future will hold. We’re experiencing that now and there are some growing pains that come along with it. I am one with the struggle, living it now, so fight on!

Do you think reality shows like American Idol, X factor and The Voice have helped or hurt the music industry as a whole?

DC: It’s definitely a unique platform. Personally it’s just another example of how our society likes to build it’s heroes up to tear them down. Many great voices out there, tons of talent but so many more intangibles that go into making a “great” that will never be measured in that environment. It’s the road that makes the artist. You can’t fast track that. You have to live it.

What is your opinion of unauthorized music downloads?AUF CD

DC: If you still show up for the live show, buy a ticket, pick up a shirt, burn away.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear.

DC: Peter is a Chip freak. Tom absolutely despises Mayonnaise. Jimmy works for a company that designs digital weapons training systems and Stu used to sell Police gear to local Police Departments.

Do you know what a vinyl album is and have your ever purchased one? If so, what was it?

DC: Yes I do and I actually prefer vinyl! Last I purchased was an original pressing of “Master of Puppets”.

You’re marooned on an island with Justin Bieber. Do you choke him out the first night in his sleep or what?

DC: I’m probably going to be too busy trying to figure out how the hell I ended up with Justin Bieber in the first place.

What is your opinion of Miley Cyrus?

DC: Stopped paying attention a long time ago and to be honest never really did pay attention to begin with.

Which would you rather hear in concert? Lip synching or real vocals?

DC: It’s sad that this would even be a question. Real vocals.

Who, or what, is the next big thing?

DC: So many talented artists out there. I am all over 21 pilots right now but they’ve been around for a bit.

One artist you can’t get enough of and can’t live without is…

DC: Soundgarden

Confession time. Share a secret about yourself.

DC: I am Bipolar and it is something that I work on everyday of my life.

Favorite movie of all time and why.

DC: Impossible to answer. All time favorite story line would be Star Wars, all movies. It just has a spiritual overtone that speaks to my core. It inspires me and is something that I share deeply with my sons.

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

DC: APOLLO UNDER FIRE BY APOLLO UNDER FIRE IS OUT NOW!! GRAB YOUR COPY TODAY!! iTunes.com* *”Gotta Believe”* – The 1st single from the self-titled debut record out NOW on iTunes and all other digital outlets!! https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/apollo-under-fire/id1120675442 Official

VBlog, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, and Ozzie?

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Sharon-Osbourne-and-Ozzy-OsbourneRecently Ozzy has come forward and now reporting that not only is he a recovering alcoholic, and drug addict. He can also add to that list..WAIT FOR IT…..a recovering sex addict..LMAO!! How ridiculous is that? Sex addiction is real but come on OZZY really? From watching your sitcom you can hardly walk across a floor or speak coherently..Sex addiction is real of course. I don’t know Ozzy but from his public persona I would simply guess he was looking for affection/attention and not from an over bearing woman that his wife appears to be…

Clint EastwoodClint Eastwood and his son recently sat down with Esquire Magazine. Clint looks back at some of his movies, his decisions in life that drive him. His work ethics and the now “Pussy Generation” we live in. Its a great read and words of wisdom from a man that is 86 years old and still gets up and goes to work everyday.

ANGUS YOUNG RETIRING AC/DC?

‘It can look a bit strange – ‘Who’s this old guy in a school suit?’ ” says 61-year-old AC/DC guitarist Angus Young. “Somebody once commented, ‘From a distance, he looks quite youthful.’ It’s only when you get up close that you can see the weathered look.” That wear and tear are real for Young as he leads AC/DC through their toughest and possibly final world tour, which ends September 20th in Philadelphia.

MTV turns 35! Where were you?

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

MtvmoonThe band Saxon had a semi metal hit way back in the day that had an opening line that went like this…”Where were you in 79′ when the dam began to burst?” Collectively speaking, the same thing happened in 1981 when a new Music Channel signed on for the first time. Who would have known back then that it would permanently change the way we “look” at music. I remember MTV coming to the Evansville/Henderson area and was being “pitched”. I used to have one of “Flair” stick pin buttons that was given away while they were in town.

When I lived at home, my brother and I had MTV on 24 hours a day…We watched the KISS “Unmasking” live. We also watched Iron Maiden’s Debut of “Two Minutes to Midnight” that first aired at two minutes to midnight”. Go figure! Michael Jackson”s mini horror music video “Thriller” too. Which seemed to air every hour on the hour. It was an exciting time not knowing which video was next to air! It could be a metal band like “W.A.S.P. or an 80’s pop band like “Wham!”. You young kids have no idea what you missed. The hairstyles, the music, the clothes, the girls, the culture. It was an awakening! Just like when the 60’s revolution started! Did you “Catch the wave!”

Check out original VJ Martha Quinn as she looks back on that historical event!

YAHOO MUSIC: MARTHA QUINN

This was the first video to air on MTV. They had no idea how prophetic at the time it would turn out to be.

KickActs interviews “Blacklite District”

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0
Blacklite District

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and were you can be found online.

Well I was born and raised in a town called Spearfish of the state of South Dakota. I met Kyle Pfeiffer (Lead Vox/guitars) in 5th grade and ever since then I’ve been by his side in the process of making music which later became Blacklite District. You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?

I’d have to go with Chester Bennington of Linkin Park is one of my biggest influences because they were the band that really inspired me to wanna get involved with music. Other heroes of mine would be James Hetfield, Ozzy Osbourne, Zakk Wylde and the list goes on and on.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music business?

Always have a lawyer and always make friends which will lead to great connections to get you further along and always be writing music. You either go full on with it or don’t do it. Go big or go home.

What piece of advice did you ignore that you wish you hadn’t?

Not having a lawyer at the time we absolutely should have had one but all you can do is live and learn and to move on.

Do you have a greatest gig story or worst gig horror story you’d like to share?

It’s always been an absolute blast playing at the famous venue “The Machine Shop” in Flint, Michigan. You can never go wrong playing there. They have an awesome staff, great sound and amazing hospitality. The party is just insane all around.

Worst gig we’ve had is where an amp or PA gets blown out and having to basically turn it into a stand up comedy show to keep the crowd from keeping silent until the situation is fixed. That’s never fun but we make the best of it. lol

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of peckers or boobs?  Make sock puppets? Sit in the dark and eat Cheetos?

Always enjoying the art of drawing peckers and boobs growing up ahaha wtf. Some interesting questions we got here. Other that the drawings I enjoy running, disc golfing, skating and hiking quite a bit. I basically just love to be active and to be outdoors as much as possible.

What do you think about the current music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

For the rock world I definitely see it dying out just because there hasn’t been any bands that top the big names like GNR, Kiss, Motley Crue, or Linkin Park. It’s all just starting to sound the same anymore. Where are those top new bands coming out at?

Do you think reality shows like American Idol, X factor and The Voice have helped or hurt the music industry as a whole?

Look up some famous quotes that Dave Grohl states. He says exactly how I feel about those lame shows.

What is your opinion of unauthorized music downloads?

It’s definitely a big reason of why the industry has been hurt and has changed the game dramatically. No one buys records anymore when your able to just go on YouTube and listen to an entire album for free. People need to realize that artists put their life into the music spend thousands of dollars to make their records. It has come down to making your money doing live shows, period.

Do you know what a vinyl album is and have your ever purchased one? If so, what was it?

I know Vinyl records are out of date but I absolutely still rock them. I’ve got a couple old records players I use from time to time. I’ve got about a hundred old Vinyls including Black Sabbath, Kiss, The Doors, Led Zeppelin to even Linkin Park and more recent albums I’ll still occasionally purchase.

Which would you rather hear in concert?  Lip syncing or real vocals?

Real. Live. Vocals.

Who, or what, is the next big thing?

BLD is back and we are ready to roll harder than ever. It’s round 2 engaged. \m/

One artist you can’t get enough of and can’t live without is…

Linkin Park

Confession time. Share a secret about yourself.

My real name isn’t Roman it’s Nick. Roman is my middle name. In high school I would always get annoyed by classmates coming up to me and saying “I’m Nick James B****!” But I’ve always went by my middle name Roman.

Favorite movie of all time and why.

The Breakfast Club. No need for why but because it’s such a fresh classic and if you haven’t seen it there must be something wrong with you.

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD!”

Get off your phones and enjoy this precious thing called life that we all have! Nothing upsets me more than seeing 5 year old kids playing on their IPads/iPhones instead of being outside and coping with reality.

t-garry-marshall-mothers-dayThe guy basically had his hand in so many hit shows during his time…He was a genius.

From: USAToday

Hollywood actor, director, writer and producer Garry Marshall is gone at age 81.

The comedy giant died at 5 p.m. PT Tuesday from complications of pneumonia following a stroke at a hospital in Burbank, Calif., his representative Michelle Bega confirmed to USA TODAY.

A beloved figure in show business, Marshall leaves behind a legacy as a hitmaker on television and in films, a comedian with impeccable delivery, and a warm personality to those he encountered.

He was born in the Bronx to a tap dance teacher and an industrial film director. “My mother was special, she gave us our humor,” Marshall recalled in an interview with USA TODAY in April. “I remember her saying, ‘Never be boring. You gotta entertain people.’ And at 16 years old, I didn’t know what boring meant. I said, ‘What is boring, Ma?’ She said, ‘Your father,’ ” he said, chuckling.
