KickActs interviews!!!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

ANOTHER LOST YEAR!

Another Lost Year

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and were you can be found online.

We are a group of young strapping lads from the south that should never be left alone with power tools. Haha We’re the everyday dudes from right down the street and we happen to be in the rock band Another Lost Year. We have some social media stuff, I think it’s called The Facebook and The Twitter
and The Instagram. Also 2 sites, whoisALY.com <http://whoisaly.com> and anotherlostyear.com. We play roughly 200-250 shows a year. Coast to coast and border to border.

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?
Mr Rogers. He has a sweet yet soft voice. Also ADTR, Breaking Benjamin, Journey, Kansas, Conway Twitty, Sir Elton John, Angie Aparo, Garth Brooks. And Tupac.

Music should make you feel something. Have you ever listened to any of these bands and NOT felt something. Next question

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music business?

Get a side hustle, thick skin, and a rich significant other. Leave your heart in your music and your feelings at the door. This is the real world. No one cares. No one listens. You gotta make them care. You gotta make them listen….

What piece of advice did you ignore that you wish you hadn’t?

Haha I can’t say those…. At the end of the day we’ve carved out our own path. It’s what we’re known for. It’s what I hope we’re always known for.Integrity.

Do you have a greatest gig story or worst gig horror story you’d like to share?

Every show is its own thing. But watching the Midwest markets grow from nothing to 150+ people a night is one of the best feelings ever. The nights that we play to smaller crowds where you have to rely on connection though…. That’s where the magic is.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of peckers or boobs? Make sock puppets? Sit in the dark and eat Cheetos?

I collect watches. Seiko to be exact. I just score a sweet 50th anniversary divers kinetic. My boy Eric, he’s a pilot. Not that that has anything to do with anything, but he has a similar obsession. And I wanted everyone to know I have a pilot friend.

What do you think about the current music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

It varies. It starts with the bands. Then the promoters. Then the venue. It’s a joint effort. We’re all responsible for growing it or killing it. You have a pet? Do you feed it?

Do you think reality shows like American Idol, X factor and The Voice have helped or hurt the music industry as a whole?

I may have been on one of those. Tried out for all three. Who knows. To each their own. We hurt the industry as consumers. We let this happen.

What is your opinion of unauthorized music downloads?

Can’t stop it. Embrace it. Napster was the best and worst thing ever. Again, we’re all to blame.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear.

There isn’t much people don’t know about us. We’re people. We have good days. We have bad days. Much like every other person. Sometimes you catch us in a funk. That’s something about all of us people probably didn’t know.

Hypothetical situation. You’re on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the survivors… Which one and why?

The professor?

Do you know what a vinyl album is and have your ever purchased one? If so, what was it?

Haha I do. Also I know what lazer disc is. DO YOU? I have purchased many a vinyl. Probably my favorite though is Otis Redding. I love the smell. The sound. All of it. (Editor: Lol good come back on the Lazer Disc! It was a great concept that never really took off, too bad :(…)

You’re marooned on an island with Justin Bieber. Do you choke him out the first night in his sleep or what?

I’m actually digging his new stuff. I know. I know.

What is your opinion of Miley Cyrus?

She grew up in the spotlight. She’s just being her. I follow her on social media. She’s a beast.

Which would you rather hear in concert? Lip syncing or real vocals?

I’ll pretend like you didn’t ask that. We run no tracks. That’s where I’ll leave that.

Who, or what, is the next big thing?

Anyone who works hard. You don’t become legendary by buying your place. You earn it. You make people care when they don’t want to. Success is defined by many different levels. I feel Another Lost Year has a many of the pieces and we’re connecting the dots. Shameless plug.

One artist you can’t get enough of and can’t live without is…

Kelsea Ballerini and Lauren Alaina both country singers. They’re boss’.

Confession time. Share a secret about yourself.

I take selfies in the gym. Daily.

Favorite movie of all time and why.

I’m hooked on Straight Outta Compton right now.

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

Check out our new album first and foremost that drops in June. The new EP comes out in a matter of days, also, if you’re of age, go vote. I don’t care for who. Just do your part. Remember. Make them care. Thanks for taking the time to chat.

KickActs interviews “Artifas”!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Artifas

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?

The band has many different musical heroes. Everything ranging from Michael Jackson to Periphery, Incubus, Karnivool, Red, Justin Timberlake, Papa Roach…. There are many for us, and from all over the genre map.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music business?

I think the best advice that I could give would be to never give up! This industry is tough and full of speed bumps in the road. Those who stick it out through the thick and the thin are the ones that make it in the end! Work hard and never give up! The most successful people in life are the ones who failed the most!

What piece of advice did you ignore that you wish you hadn’t?

When we first started we went to go work with a well established rock singer(who I won’t name at the time). We were told by multiple people that he was going to screw us over and that we would end up regretting it! They were correct! That advice ended up costing us thousands of dollars and a lot of wasted time! I wish we would have listened to that one from the get go, but we were blinded by the shiny lights and promises that were never filled.

Do you have a greatest gig story or worst gig horror story you’d like to share?

There isn’t a “greatest gig” story that is just jumping off of the page! We have had so many great shows in 2015, that it would be hard to pick! Both the Saint Asonia and Theory of a Deadman tours were filled with those greatest gig nights! For me ( Scottie ) the worst gig would have to be back in 2012, I believe, when I broke my ankle on stage in front of a sold out home crowd…..IN THE FIRST SONG!!!! It was horrifying, but I didn’t stop the show! Once my adrenaline got going again, i was feeling good. That is until I got off the stage and went back to the merch table! Once i sat down and pulled of my boots, it looked like someone shoved a softball in my ankle! Needless to say the next few months of touring were a pain in the ass. Nothing like being on the stage in a bright red cast.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of peckers or boobs? Make sock puppets? Sit in the dark and eat Cheetos?

I like to collect pipes haha!!!!! I also recently bought a drone, and that little thing is awesome! May be the start of a new hobby, may not! You will have to check back with me on that one. As far as the other guys, we have some pretty extreme gamers in the band. We also have a severe tendency to nerd out to Star Wars, Batman, The Walking Dead, and other kick ass super hero stuff!!!

What do you think about the current music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

The scene has it’s ups and downs. Recently we’ve seen a pretty decent change in the amount of people at shows! It all depends on where you are and who is involved though! Some places you would never expect have some of the best scenes and other places you feel would be amazing don’t seem to pull a crowd. I believe the scene will always be alive. People crave live music. There isn’t anything quite as passionate that you can experience.

Do you think reality shows like American Idol, X factor and The Voice have helped or hurt the music industry as a whole?

I definitely don’t think they hurt the industry. Just because of those shows, people aren’t going to stop listening to other music. I think that it is a good avenue for some people who might not have the freedom or opportunity to get out there and grind like we do, but on the other hand, it makes it easier for people to just go do without figuring out who they are as an artist or without the drive to get out and do the work
themselves. It’s all just TV. I don’t really care too much about any of them, but more power to those who find that as their best avenue to pursue their dreams.

What is your opinion of unauthorized music downloads?

It sucks, it’s here to stay, and there are other ways. It is the most basic form of stealing, but there doesn’t seem to be much that we can do about it. There does seem to be a massive shift to streaming music from
apps like Spotify and iTunes, which makes me a little happier to see, but the fact of the matter is that these companies aren’t paying the artists much either. I hope sometime in the near future there is a solution to
this. It’s only fair that the artists get paid for what they created.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear.

Mikey is into Japanese Metal music. He’s big into groups like DollsBox. Anthony has actually played guitar in every other band he’s ever been with other than Artigas. Cody has a total soft spot for Almond Joy and Jared has still to this day never seen Star Wars

Hypothetical situation. You’re on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the survivors… Which one and why?

Ginger…. let’s face it, she was the hot one

Do you know what a vinyl album is and have your ever purchased one? If so, what was it?

Of Course. I used to have a pretty massive Vinyl collection with everything from Elvis, to The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. And then my crazy ex girlfriend stole them all. I haven’t seen them since!

You’re marooned on an island with Justin Bieber. Do you choke him out the first night in his sleep or what?

I’d put him in a cage til I ran out of food!

What is your opinion of Miley Cyrus?

Hot! Bad Songs! Doesn’t like clothes!

Which would you rather hear in concert? Lip syncing or real vocals?

Real vocals all day, every day! I have lip syncing

Who, or what, is the next big thing?

I’m hoping we are!

One artist you can’t get enough of and can’t live without is…

Karnivool

Confession time. Share a secret about yourself.

i used to teach high school drumlines. Yeah…me…. a high school teacher!

Favorite movie of all time and why.

Rockstar. First of it’s a music movie based around metal. Secondly it’s a movie where a guy follows his dreams no matter what!
Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

If there is one steady thing that I always like to preach, it’s for people to chase their dreams! This life was meant for you to do what you love, and to go after what you want to be. I know it’s easy sometimes to get sucked into working a job you hate to make ends meet, but if i’ve learned anything through all of this, it’s that no matter what, if you really want something and chase after it with everything you have, then there is no reason that you shouldn’t succeed. Take the risk, take a chance, have some faith in yourselves! Dream big!

Camera phones — which barely existed even a decade ago — are awesome in so many ways. We can take pictures quickly and easily and share them with the world instantly.

Sometimes, something sneaks into a photograph unexpectedly and that’s exactly what happened when Dan Mozer began taking pictures of his wife on Atlantic Beach, Florida.

Mozer’s nine-month pregnant wife, Angeline was posing by the oceanfront last month while her husband took pictures. You can image his surprise when he realized he also captured a dolphin jumping out of the water in the background in what may have been the world’s greatest photobomb.

The Costa Concordia uprighted photos!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

It’s been four years since the ship basically ran aground and tipped over due to the Captain’s error. A photographer recently swam out and boarded the uprighted ship and took some incredible photos of the interior of it.

costa-concordia

Here’s an excerpt: House Beautiful

“Germany-based photographer Jonathan Danko Kielkowski, who typically focuses on the creation and destruction of industrial buildings, is now offering a rare glimpse at the inside of the ship. Kielkowski swam out and climbed aboard the vessel to capture photographs of the wreckage for his forthcoming book, Concordia, which is set to be released next month. The result is an eerie collection of images including a demolished grand staircase, dismantled elevators, and rusted slot machines.”
