Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and were you can
be found online.

I am Jeremiah “Trauma” Stratton!  I can be found on Facebook at:

I’m born and raised in beautiful San Clemente, CA and currently reside in
Cleveland, OH.  I’ve been playing drums for about 16 years now and have no
intention of slowing any time soon!  Please review my Facebook for more
information!

hed pe new

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?

It’s a hard question…  There are so many!  But to name a few, Dave
Mustaine, Vinnie Paul, Donald Tardy, Donald Fagen, Nobuo Uematsu, Howard
Shore, Verdine and Maurice White…  The list just goes on and on.  Megadeth,
Earth, Wind, and Fire, and Steely Dan have always been a huge influence due
to great song writing and the musical talent to back it up.  My
appreciation for orchestral soundtracks have stuck with me since I was a
kid.  Beautiful moody melodies are still some of my favorite items to be in
my music player today.  And of course, groove!  Vinnie Paul, Donald Tardy
(Pantera and Obituary) have always had me bobbing my head with their heavy
grooves.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music
business?

Well, here’s the best thing I can say…  Constant and never ending
improvement!  That’s not just advice for Music Industry, that’s advice for
success across the board!

What piece of advice did you ignore that you wish you hadn’t?

SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!

Do you have a greatest gig story or worst gig horror story you’d like to
share?

Hmm….  Well actually the story of how I got connected with (HED)P.E. is
pretty amazing…  I mean my cousin accidently called his friend one day who
worked at a studio across the alley from where (HED)P.E. was auditioning
drummers all week.  They weren’t happy with the drummers they had all week
and after my cousin accidently called his friend Mark, Jared randomly went
into this studio and asked if anyone there knew a drummer that could play!
Coincidentally, my cousin was coming to see my Metal band at the time
called “Bloodbath and Beyond” THAT NIGHT, so Mark and my cousin Joshua
“LOGIC” Harris just happened to talk about me and my band on that mistake
phone call.  I never met Mark before that day, but he said “Yeah my friend
has a cousin who plays and I can try him if you want?”.  So I played my
show, my cousin got word and that night I talked to Jared over the phone.
He emailed me 6 songs, I listened to them on the way up there to the
audition the following morning after RAGING all night (hahahaha), and now
about 6 years later here we are!  It’s been a heck of a ride, tell you
what!

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps?
Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of peckers or
boobs? Make sock puppets? Sit in the dark and eat Cheetos?

I really enjoy Console Gaming (PS3, XBOX).  Also, I love flying remote
control helicopters!  I have a Hausler 450, and a Blade nanoCPX, both 6
channel full 3D flight helicopters!  Those are loads of fun, but quite
expensive if you crash, let me tell ya!

What do you think about the current music scene or lack of? Care to
address that?

Well, the industry certainly has changed quite a bit, but I’m sure people
have been saying that about it for years and years anyway.  Only certain
thing about life is change, so you either adapt or be left behind.  That’s
why I said earlier, constant and never ending improvement is so important
because there’s always someone more hungry than you and ready to take your
business, you know?

Do you think reality shows like American Idol, X factor and The Voice have
helped or hurt the music industry as a whole?

That’s hard to say…  Maybe it created a bigger market for sugar coated pop
music, but I don’t see it making a big impact on Metal or Rock markets at
all.  Shows like American Idol are only entertaining when the people suck
anyway…  hahahahaha

What is your opinion of unauthorized music downloads?

Personally, I know it can’t be avoided.  I wouldn’t care, so long as you
spread the word and come out to see us when we’re close!  BUY SOME T-SHIRTS
INSTEAD!

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect
to hear.

Hmm…  Mark Young is really into Bikram Yoga!  Jackson Benge has a Masters
degree in Graphic Design or something like that…  And Jared?  Totally
began his Musical Journey playing the piano as a kid.  That’s all I got!

Hypothetical situation. You’re on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up
with only one of the survivors… Which one and why?

Not familiar with Giligan’s Island well enough to answer that one…

Do you know what a vinyl album is and have your ever purchased one? If so,
what was it?

Yes I know what it is, and the only vinyl I’ve ever purchased was
Mushroomhead’s latest record, “The Righteous and The Butterfly”.

You’re marooned on an island with Justin Bieber. Do you choke him out the
first night in his sleep or what?

Ah, Justin Bieber doesn’t matter enough to me to hate or like him…  Long
as he doesn’t act like a douche, as with anyone else, then maybe I won’t
knock him out… Maybe…

What is your opinion of Miley Cyrus?

Yikes…

Which would you rather hear in concert?* * Lip synching or real vocals?

Real vocals for sure!  I recently saw a show of a band I’ve been really
into lately, and was SO disappointed to see these clowns basically playing
along to their CD.  How embarrassing!  If I wanted to hear the CD version,
I’d enjoy it at home and hear whatever song I want to hear as many times as
I want to hear it.  A show should be something special every time you see
it, where that band is at THAT moment.  Ugh, I hate lip syncing…

Who, or what, is the next big thing?

If I knew the answer to that question, I would be WAY too busy to answer
you…  hahahahaha j/k

One artist you can’t get enough of and can’t live without is…

Nobuo Uematsu.  I know you may not know who he is, but he’s a Japanese
Soundtrack Composer who did most of the Final Fantasy Series music.  My
whole life his music has soothed my mind, and I still always listen daily
to ease my spirits.

1505139_10152163533504104_1124513517_nConfession time. Share a secret about yourself.

Before my music career, I was an Executive VP of Sales at a lending
institution during the huge real estate boom in the early 2000’s.  Yep,
total corporate pig with a suit and tie on every day, waking up miserable
daily.  Money isn’t everything…

Favorite movie of all time and why.

Lord of the Rings Trilogy!  It’s got everything; laughter, courage,
struggle, companionship, romance, action, and inspiration.  I can watch any
of them at any time and be completely drawn in.

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk
about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

LOVE!!!!  LOVE!!!!  Can’t say it enough, put a little LOVE in your heart
people!  I would be happy to see more people walking around with more LOVE
in their hearts.  In the great words of Abraham Lincoln in “Bill and Ted’s
Excellent Adventure”: Be excellent to each other…  AND PARTY ON DUDES!!!!

Kickacts interviews “Sonali”!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

LaFamos_Sonali_MAINWelcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and were you can be found online.

Hey! Well my name is Sonali, I’m a singer-songwriter from South Florida but I’m currently studying at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. You can find me on Facebook(facebook.com/ItsMeSonali), Instagram, Twitter (@itsmesonali), YouTube (youtube.com/sonaliargade), or on my website (www.ItsMeSonali.com).

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?

Ha that’s a long list! Well from the current scene one of my biggest influences is Ed Sheeran, he’s such a fantastic songwriter. I love how detailed and story like his lyrics are. And of course his voice is just absolutely angelic, so he could probably sing the alphabet and I’d be just as entertained. I also really like Colbie Caillat, Mumford & Sons, Passenger, all that folky, singer-songwriter type stuff! Most people would be surprised to know that I actually love classic rock and metal as well. Led Zeppelin is one of my all time favorite bands, they’re just incredible.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music business?

Well I’m just starting out myself so I have a lot to learn! But one thing that you really need is determination. My whole life I’ve been told how hard it is to make it in this industry and how the odds are against you, and that’s always been a reality I’ve come to accept. But theoretically hearing that and actually living it are two totally different things. My biggest piece of advice is to just stick with it. If you have a strong passion for something, as most musicians do, you have to just go for it and give it your all. That can be really hard sometimes, as success usually does not come for a very long time…if at all. But that’s all part of being an artist!

What piece of advice did you ignore that you wish you hadn’t?

Hm…I definitely wish I had practiced more when I was in high school! Don’t get me wrong, I definitely did my fair share of playing, but more practice can never hurt! Still hear my mom’s voice ringing in my years!

Do you have a greatest gig story or worst gig horror story you’d like to share?

I haven’t had anything too extreme happen yet! One thing I will say though is I am the clumsiest person ever! So you can imagine when you’re sharing a cramped small stage with several other musicians and a bunch of cables running all over the place…not the best situation for a clumsy person like myself. Needless to say I’ve done my fair share of tripping haha. And that’s definitely happened on more than one occasion.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Make sock puppets? Sit in the dark and eat Cheetos?

I wish my hobbies were that interesting! I’ll have to take up hat collecting off the side of the road I suppose. But I’d say my hobbies are pretty typical for a kid my age! I love just hanging out with my family and friends, especially my dog Scooter! I also enjoy reading, and just walking around and exploring New York City.

What do you think about the current music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

The current music scene is a really interesting one, I’ll say that! Everything’s changing, it’s in a very transitional state. That’s both really exciting and also very daunting. It’s not as lucrative as it once was, and the old models of how to break new artists and stay relevant are becoming outdated. So now it’s kind of like all the rules have to be rewritten. While there’s a ton of grey area, it’s also super exciting because it’s a chance for us to invent our own ideas, and find new ways to make things work. I’m excited to be a part of it!

Do you think reality shows like American Idol, X Factor and The Voice have helped or hurt the music industry as a whole?

There’s both a good and bad side to reality shows. Some really phenomenal artists have been launched through shows like this, and they are really great platforms for exposure. The problem with reality TV is that it isn’t exactly reality all the time, a lot of it is staged, because it is at the end of the day a television show that is there to entertain its viewers. I wouldn’t say reality shows have hurt the music industry, but I do think it creates a somewhat unrealistic portrayal of what it means to “make it” as an artist.

What is your opinion of unauthorized music downloads?

I wish it wouldn’t happen, but I think it’s sort of inevitable at this point. I think the best thing as musicians is to just accept this. It kind of forces you to think of a different or more creative business model to survive. It also forces you to wear a lot of different hats, which can sometimes take away from the creative side of things, but it is what it is!

Tell us something about you that we wouldn’t expect to hear.

I’m a huge nerd, but I’m proud of it! I’ve always loved academics just as much as music, I was that kid in high school always taking a million AP classes and trying to get straight As haha. Also, I’m a big Lord of the Rings fan…that’s as nerdy as it gets, right?

Hypothetical situation. You’re on Gilligan’s Island and you get to hook up with only one of the survivors… Which one and why?

I’m embarrassed to say I have never seen Gilligan’s Island and cannot even name a single character…except Gilligan of course haha. So I have absolutely no idea!

Do you know what a vinyl album is and have your ever purchased one? If so, what was it?

Vinyl? What’s that? Haha of course I know what vinyl is! I sadly have never purchased one though; I hope to change that soon.

You’re marooned on an island with Justin Bieber. Do you choke him out the first night in his sleep or what?

Ha! Well no if I choke him I would significantly decrease my chances of survival, as I’m sure the world would be much more preoccupied with rescuing Justin Bieber from a deserted island rather than myself 🙂

What is your opinion of Miley Cyrus?

I think Miley is very smart! She took some time, completely rebranded herself, and came back to the spotlight with a splash. Her goal was to make everyone take notice, and that she certainly did. Love her or hate her, everyone knows her name and has an opinion about her, and that’s great exposure.

Which would you rather hear in concert?  Lip-synching or real vocals?

Real vocals! I actually love hearing slight imperfections when artists perform live (to an extent of course haha). It just reminds us that we’re all human I think.

Who, or what, is the next big thing?

Hm, I believe her name is Sonali…haha just kidding! Someone who’s starting to make it pretty big is Passenger, he’s such a great songwriter. I definitely hope his career continues to blossom, I think he could be big!

One artist you can’t get enough of and can’t live without is… Why?

I would say Ed Sheeran but I think I’ve already gone on enough about him for one interview haha. I guess I’ll say Led Zeppelin though. They can write songs that are classic blues, reggae, folky acoustic, you name it, yet have a sound that is so distinctly them. It’s great, they’re all just tremendous musicians.

Confession time. Share a secret about yourself.

But if I tell you then it won’t be a secret anymore!

Favorite movie of all time and why?

Oh I hate this question haha, I can never pick just one! I love comedies, but at the same time I love dramas with really in depth characters and storylines, I guess that’s where the writer in me comes in! I guess one of the best combinations of that is Forrest Gump, that’s a great film.

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s where you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

Well I guess this would be a good time to talk about my music! Based on my influences and the artists I’ve talked about, you can probably guess my music is pretty singer-songwritery haha, I like to describe it as pop/rock with a folky twist. I’ve been told I’m some sort of a mix between Colbie Caillat and Mumford & Sons, which is such a huge compliment because they’re both great artists! If you’d like to hear some of it, visit my website! (www.ItsMeSonali.com).

KickActs interviews “Ostrich Run”!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and were you can be found online.

Orun Grafiti 2

We are two friends who grew up together sharing the same life goals. Ostrich Run was formed so that we can use our musical obsession to promote and support nonprofit organizations through our own organization called, The Ostrich Farm. OstrichRun.com is a place where you can discover more about our music. Also, you can see how we connect The Ostrich Farm with the band at theostrichfarm.org.

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?

Mark and Tom from Blink 182 were our main influences growing up. Watching them have so much fun playing music was the reason we bought guitars in the first place. In elementary school we formed our first punk rock band so that we could be just like our heroes from Blink 182. Today, what influences us are bands who seem to make something simple seem intricate and meaningful. Mark Foster from Foster the People is a great example. The guys from Cage the Elephant are other musicians that get our creativity going. Phantogram is quickly becoming an influence of ours. The truth is it’s hard to narrow it down to only a few. We love so much music and try to take a little bit from everything.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music business?

Always have a vision for where you want your career to go. Stick with that vision until the end, and be sure to know exactly who you are before anything else. That way the people you meet along the way – whether it be managers, agents, publicists, or even labels – will be able to back you up 100% and not have to steer you in a direction you do not want to go. Believe in yourself and “NO” only means try harder.

What piece of advice did you ignore that you wish you hadn’t?

There’s not necessarily a distinct piece of advice that we’ve ignored, but just more of a state of mind people all ways tend to tell us. “Patience is a virtue.” These days with all the new innovation, instant gratification is a huge part of our culture. But when it comes to music you need patience. And from time to time we forget this, so striving to have this virtue is definitely a big thing for us in Ostrich Run.

Do you have a greatest gig story or worst gig horror story you’d like to share?

One of our worst gig stories was when our buddy asked us to play an event with about 5 or so bands. We said yes and at the time we only could play acoustic because of drummer issues. We got the show and were first to go on. After playing we thought everything went ok. Then the next 5 bands came on. They were all hardcore screamo bands wearing make up and jester outfits. We both kind of looked at each other and just thought “What are we doing here?” but we had some beers, and ended up having a good time and eventually didn’t feel out of place.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of peckers or boobs?  Make sock puppets? Sit in the dark and eat Cheetos?

Well three of our favorite hobbies our counting things, screaming at things, and collecting brown rocks…? But in all seriousness we both play basketball outside of our music and act a lot. We’re also making a short pilot called, Frenly Kids. It’s about some kids who win the lottery only to spend all their winnings too fast, and have to adapt back to the reality of a normal life.

What do you think about the current music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

We think there’s a big lack of real rock. I mean everything is so 80’s right now. Everything that’s getting played is all electronic, and full of pop, not to say that’s bad, but when you flip on a rock station like KROQ and hear Lorde… c’mon!!! We love Lorde, but hate that music like that is taking up AirPlay on stations that claim to be about rock. We hope things start to climb back to the 90’s and early 2000’s feel. That would be awesome!

Do you think reality shows like American Idol, X Factor and The Voice have helped or hurt the music industry as a whole?

As a whole, there are good and bad things that come with these shows. On one hand, the industry is making money and getting more listeners etc. But on the other hand, the artists are hurting. It’s making more artists come and go too quickly. These shows make the industry quick money, but hinder the artists from on going success. So if we have to say one thing about these shows, it’s the fact that they help the industry but are a disadvantage to artists as a whole.

What is your opinion of unauthorized music downloads?

We definitely think it sucks, but people inevitably want things for free, and they’ll do what they have to do to get things for free. So on the bright side at least they like the music. In the end, if you like a band enough to want their music, we feel you should download their music legally and support them. Mainly because the money you spend allows them to keep on doing what they do and put out music you love.

Album Cover - Final

Tell us something about you/each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear.

Ummm this one is a tough one. I mean something that people probably don’t know or expect to hear is that although we connect our music with helping people and charities, we tended to be little troublemakers as kids. You go down the list… we ended up getting in trouble for it. But it’s not without trouble that gets you where you are today.

Hypothetical situation. You’re on Gilligan’s Island and you get to hook up with only one of the survivors… Which one and why?

Oh this ones easy. Gilligan of course. I mean c’mon have you seen the man? But for real, Mary Ann no question. Any body whose says otherwise is crazy.

Do you know what a vinyl album is and have your ever purchased one? If so, what was it?

Definitely! If you don’t know what a vinyl album is and are in the music business or industry, then there’s something wrong. Still, we tend to buy our stuff digitally, but when we go to the stores we buy the coolest looking thing we see. Mark’s first vinyl he bought was Lionel Ritchie and Joel’s was an Angel’s and Airwaves’ first album after Blink 182 broke up.

You’re marooned on an island with Justin Bieber. Do you choke him out the first night in his sleep or what?

No we keep him alive, become his friend… only to be saved and use his friendship to get to Selena Gomez. Then we never talk to the little shit again.

What is your opinion of Miley Cyrus?

“What the hell happened?” sums it up. She was this Disney girl and little pop star. Now she’s the new Lindsey Lohan haha but ya she’s awesome for doing what she wants and going for it! Love the hair too.

Which would you rather hear in concert?  Lip-synching or real vocals?

Real vocals without a question. Nobody wants to pay money to go see a band or an artist and see them run around while their cd is playing. We want to see you actually preform the music you wrote and show your emotions. Hopefully everyone feels the same as well!

Who, or what, is the next big thing?

Were hoping 90’s, and 2000’s style music is the next big thing. They say music repeats itself, and right now, we’re in the 80’s per say, which means 90’s are up again baby. And we hope Ostrich Run and Ostrich Farm are going to be a big part of it.

One artist you can’t get enough of and can’t live without is… Why?

Blink 182, and I honestly don’t know why. I think we’ve listened to all of their songs like 50 times, and we’ll still put them on first when driving in the car. Their simplicity and up beat songs really get to us, and help us write. Not to mention that they are all about having fun, and that’s kind of our band motto as well.

Confession time. Share a secret about yourself.

If it’s a secret it stays a secret, no if’s and’s or but’s!!

Favorite movie of all time and why?

Our favorite movie by far is “Dumb and Dumber”… by far. That movie is so funny. We swear we quote it like every day. Our favorite scene is when the cop tells Harry to pull over and Jeff Daniels says, “No, it’s a cardigan, but thanks for noticing!” Soooo good.

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s where you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

The last thing we want to say is do not give up on what you think you can succeed at. Usually, that’s the thing you love most. Always try to find something positive in your day, even when it is the worst day ever! Life is too short not to. As far as we know, we all have one shot at this thing called life. Make it count and help everyone you know do the same!!!
