My Review of Paul Stanley’s book “Face the Music”

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

(please feel free to re post/Like and share! Thanks 🙂

paulstanleybookI just finished reading Paul Stanley’s book “Face the Music- A life Exposed”. At first, from the excerpts’ that were released to the news media prior to the book’s release date, I felt like maybe Paul was making everyone else “face the music” instead of him. I even commented on the fact that it seemed hateful and finger pointing. But what I found out after reading it was…

He is really no different than you or me. Most people aren’t born into the perfect status quo family homes with Ward and June Cleaver as parents. (That’s if they are your “example” of a perfect family.) He was born into the, dare I say typical? Dysfunctional family fold like a lot of us can relate to… Not much love going around, shown or even expressed. He to mentions that he was born was a birth defect that consisted of him not having a right ear. He referred to it as a “nub”. He also is deaf on his right side so he didn’t hear in stereo.

So feeling like the whole world was against him and virtually no family support or encouragement, he turned to music. Sounds all too familiar doesn’t it? It does to me.  As I read on thru the pages I felt like Paul was telling my story too. Not the riches and fame part but the lonely outsider, the outcast part. I never felt like I “fit” in anywhere either. As a matter of fact, though Paul has since made peace with his insecurities and inner demons (and Gene Simmon) I still have a hard time “fitting in”.

Maybe that is why I turned to music too. It was really a comfort to me. At night I would lay in bed and listen to the sound of the crackling tube warm up in the radio. The orange glow from the tube would light the darkness just enough and the smell of it as it heated up would permeate the air. Then the magic would appear. That wonderful sound of the late night DJ’s and the songs they played. Night after night throughout my childhood my old friend was there faithfully. Always waiting there for me. No matter how screwed up the day may have been. Whether I got yelled at, locked in a closet, or just spent time riding my bike,  when I turned that old radio on it washed away my fears and insecurities.

So Paul speaks throughout his book of his insecurities too. He doesn’t really throw anyone under the bus as a couple of other KISS members did in their books. I am sure he could have easily spilled a lot more about their insecurities and belittle them way more than he did. But he didn’t. He spoke of their addictions and their accomplishments. KISS was one big dysfunctional family too.

It is amazing to think that through he was “driven”. He really didn’t have a game plan. He just had the desire and he didn’t back down. Some of the things that happened to make KISS what they are, was timing and not really dumb luck but luck. It’s covered in his book. From Paul pumping gas, driving a cab and meeting Gene Klein for the first time and not liking him. From trying on make up for the first time to being in a successful band and trying to go through all the Playboy centerfolds he could. Now that’s rock and roll and yes it’s in there. But the book is more than that. He opens up his life, warts and all and shares his story.

Enclosing. I felt that out of the four original KISS members, Paul’s book is the best. It doesn’t have the dirt as the others do but I felt more like Paul was talking to me. As I said before… He is telling my story.

He is encouraging the lonely, the outcast. He is saying there is Hope. He is saying you can be who you want to be. It takes hard work but you can get there. You can rise above the past and make peace with it.

               (I’m the )

King of the Night Time World,

Chuck

Tales from the “Choping Block” Deathisode 3 ” Brown Eye to the Sky”

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Incredible artist by night. Locked away lonely butcher by day. He sees life from the other side of the glass. His “Tales from the Chop” are real. His outlook is slightly twisted. A part time Bouncer amongst the rows of dry goods when he is not cutting up the day’s morsels. His humor moves at the brush stroke of madness..He is for all practical purposes, a poetic Sweeney John. Hack on!

blood

Deathisode 3.

aaedganOkay.. So, today at work it was reported that there was a bum laying half naked out by the dumpster.
Oh yeah… You know I just had to see this.
When I walked out, I saw him laying there in all his glory.
Dead asleep (drink induced) pants around his ankles, brown eye to the sky…. His pale and pasty skin shining in the sunlight.
Another bum that was on the scene said that he had been there drinking with yet another bum.
Apparently, when Van Winkle went to teepy town his drinking partner robbed him of his bottle and whatever possessions he had. (Probably a week’s worth of aluminum cans)
I didn’t have the nerve to ask why his pants were down.
Somewhere a dog barked.

Double Cola Quote of the Week.

Mike Adams, Pens and Badges (You gotta read this)

Mike Adams

1690191_10152187311976508_1992777768_aGuns and Hoses last night in Evansville was terrible and I’ll never attend this event again. My kids and I sat next to a group of police officers that I suspect were from Boonville Police Department because of their enthusiastic and highly inebriated support for Jordan Saltzman. Not only were these guys drunken idiots, but one of them even had the nerve to ask my 14-year-old daughter “what the fuck she was looking at” when she looked over at him during his booze fueled tirade. Of course, she didn’t tell me this until later or else I would have likely gone to jail for beating this bastard in front of all his law enforcement bros. Also, one of the officers used a stripped down pair of binoculars to sneak in hard liquor to Ford Center… one side was filled with booze and the other with a chaser. I watched several of them take a swig from this contraption. It was one thing after another from these supposed officers of the law. And while it was clear that these imbeciles were cops because they couldn’t seem to stop bragging about strong-arming the average citizen, what they didn’t realize is that I am a nationally recognized journalist with the power to stir a heaping pot of shit. So, if anyone has any information about the pigs that were sitting in Section O & P, Seats 9-12, I would like to hear from you. SHARE THIS STATUS!

Margo, Adult filmstar homeless and addicted

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

100639756_news-avn---june-1997-margo-stevens-shayla-laveaux-Just another example of how uneven the adult film business is. I am not saying they caused Margo and others’ like her to become homeless and addicted to drugs. But the actresses’ do all the “work” and most don’t get residual fees or royalties. It’s pretty much you get paid for it once and that’s it as the film studio continues to sell the videos and compilation’s and make money for years and years off of it…

Back to my story. A  photographer was taking pictures of homeless people in the Miami area and happened across her…Here is the story…

And not that I am hating on the adult film business. We are all adults here and to each their own…

Paul Stanley’s book excerpts…

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

paulstanleybookPaul has been making the rounds promoting his up coming book “Face the Music”. But in reality, it seems that so far he is attempting to make everyone else he is associated with  “face the music” and not him. He is either setting the record straight on what the other 3 original band members have said or Paul is attempting to throw them all under the bus so to speak. For a band that I literally worshiped growing up I am both disappointed and looking forward to the book warts and all.

chuck

Here are a couple…

“As a result, the two of them tried to sabotage the band — which, as they saw it, was unfairly manipulated by [us] money-grubbing Jews,”

Another website has Paul saying that Peter Criss Didn’t write “Beth”…

“Gene had been very, very vocal about not only dismissing the idea of marriage, but really have a very disrespectful and demeaning attitude towards people who did.” he said. “So for me, it really came down to you don’t belong at my wedding. It would taint it. It would do something, it would be contradictory, and for me, that would be offensive. He understood. Low and behold, he got married, too.”

Even though the Kiss front-man didn’t attend Paul’s wedding, it doesn’t seem to have affected their friendship. The friends even live close to each other. Paul explained, “Gene lives literally 2 minutes down the road. I always tell people that I can see his ego from here. We’ve never gotten along better.”

The book comes out today (April 8th 2014) You can get it at Amazon and other locations including Paul’s website…If you don’t want to buy the $18.00+ book. Go to Paul’s website and buy a busted autographed guitar for $5,500.00 or a used concert mic for $3,000.00! Talk about a marketing genius!!

Peter can’t write a song, because Peter doesn’t play an instrument,” Stanley told Rolling Stone. “Penridge came up with [sings], ‘Beth, I hear you calling…’ Peter had nothing to do with it. Because if you write one hit song, you should be able to write two. That’s the reality. Devastating? It’s the truth. It was a lifeline that Peter hung on to validate himself, but it wasn’t based on reality.”

KickActs interviews “Deja Mae”!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and were you can be found online.

Deja_Mae_FlowersHellllo Kick Acts and thank you so much for having me! My name is Deja Mae, well my name is Deja Mae Howell, but I go by Deja Mae for music. My family and close friends have called me Deja Mae since I was tiny, and no matter what I told them I promoted my band name to be when I was starting out, they would all say “I’m here to see Deja Mae” to the door person. So I stopped being clever and made my regular ol’ name my band name.

Here are a few hundred places you can find me:

www.dejamae.com

www.facebook.com/dejamaehowell

www.youtube.com/dejamaemusic

www.soundcloud.com/dejamae

www.twitter.com/wheresdeja

www.instagram.com/wheresdeja

*Reason for the handle “wheresdeja” is because it’s what my family and close friends are ALWAYS SAYING “where’s deja?”. I disappear a lot, and run late a lot. I’ll hear my mom say it when I am just up in a different part of their house. I am merely a few walls and arches away, but still I am somehow deemed lost or missing.

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?

Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline, Nirvana, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Paul Simon, Robert Johnson, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Elliott Smith, Conor Oberst, Son House, Mississipi John Hurt, Nancy Sinatra, Modest Mouse, Kendrick Lamar, Tupac, Fiona Apple, Cat Power, Etta James, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Ray Lamontagne,  Mazzy Star, The Misfits… ahhh I could go on with this list for eternity, it seems. They all speak to the places inside of me no one else sees. It’s hard to explain, something in each one of these musicians/bands brings alive and soothes the pieces of me I thought broken, or even the pieces I celebrate.   They are all extremely talented to say the least.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music business?

My advice would be to take it seriously like you would any business, because that is exactly what it is, a business. The work is never finished, I am never not working. It’s important I stay focused and give myself deadlines otherwise things that are important get pushed aside for whatever comes with a deadline. Boundaries and Read more…
