Hit The Floor magazine sat down with Jacoby Shaddix of PAPA ROACH at last month’s Reading festival in England to give him the “HTF Firsts” treatment. Jacoby talked about kissing his uncle, the demise of Banooch the dog, and why he decided to smash his back into a nail. Check out the clip below.

On his first kiss:

Jacoby: “My first kiss was when my uncle kissed me and he gave me herpes. It was terrible. Anybody else got herpes? Yeah, you do. Don’t lie to yourself. I know you got it, you watching this.”

Gene Simmons said …”Rock is Dead”

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

He recently did an interview with Nick Simmons for Esquire magazine… Gene’s advice for future rock stars is to “not quit your day job”.  I actually think he is right about this one. The Rock music business is in shambles. Comments welcome and expected from fellow musicians :). chuck untitled Here’s an excerpt.

“Don’t quit your day job is a good piece of advice,” Gene began. “When I was coming up, it was not an insurmountable mountain. Once you had a record company on your side, they would fund you, and that also meant when you toured they would give you tour support. There was an entire industry to help the next BEATLES, [THE ROLLING] STONES, Prince, [Jimi] Hendrix, to prop them up and support them every step of the way. There are still record companies, and it does apply to pop, rap, and country to an extent. But for performers who are also songwriters — the creators — for rock music, for soul, for the blues — it’s finally dead.

“Rock is finally dead.

Mick Mars Compares Motley to Britney Spears :(

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Mick Mars-630-80It’s a damn sad world when hardly anyone out there playing music for a living can’t do it without the help of auto pitch and back tracks. Especially in “Rock Music”. The “Pop” people have been doing it for years and yes most teen kids are used to being spoon fed crap but in the rock world I have to ask “Who has the balls’? The balls to play it like you wrote it and not to a bunch of backing tracks of keyboards, vocals, guitar tracks etc. I mean didn’t attitude make a band? So what if they drop chords and screw up vocal lines, it keeps it real.

Mick Mars just called out his own band for doing it and yes, we have known that the powers that be have also been spoon feeding us a “LIVE” “rock and roll” show complete with “canned” everything from Motley Crue for years and years…Tommy Lee hasn’t even been playing the piano part on “Home Sweet Home”..It’s all fake…Motley Crue and a lot of other bands have been filling us up with fire, smoke and hot chicks to take our minds off the fact that they can’t even play what they wrote…

Remember when Milli Vanilli was laughed off the stage for such “fakery’? These days bands are “rewarded” with such crap…

The first time I actually heard a canned performance that I “caught” was at a concert with the christian rock band “White Cross’ back in the early 90’s. It was during the song “In the Kingdom”.  The band had finished the song and  you could here the song playing over the front house almost as loud as the band was…I so disappointed.

Hats off to Mick Mars for calling his own band out…

chuck

Here is Micks statement:

He tells Eddie Trunk (via Blabbermouth): “That’s a whole another story – that could get me in a lot of trouble. Let me put it this way: I’ll just say two words and you’ll know. Britney Spears.”

He continues: “I don’t like it. I have to say 60s and 70s  bands were my favorites because they were real. They just got up there and kicked it up. Made a mistake – so what? Sounded a little bit empty here or there – so what? It’s the bigness and rawness and the people that wrote the songs and presented them.

“I could put on a Motley CD and play with it all day long. I don’t want to do that.”

Krokus “Dirty Dynamite” and more :)

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Here is Krokus‘s new single release. Not bad. Seems they are returning to their roots a little bit. Kinda reminds me of Nazareth or maybe AC/DC with Bon Scott.

I have included some of my favorite Krokus songs too 🙂 Enjoy.

Journey finished making albums

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

from Blabbermouth:

According to The Pulse Of Radio, JOURNEY‘s recording days might be a thing of the past. Due to shifting audiences and the general nature of the music business, keyboardist Jonathan Cain thinks that maybe the band is done releasing new music. JOURNEY‘s last studio album, “Eclipse”, was released in May 2011. The Walmart exclusive debuted on The Billboard 200 album chart at No. 13 — eight spots lower than the band’s previous album, 2008’s “Revelation” — which also went on to hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums chart.

Jonathan Cain told The Pulse Of Radio that the pressing need for new JOURNEY music has seemed to fade. “Y’know, we’re not convinced the market will bear another CD from us, y’know?” he said. “And it’s so much work to make one. Y’know, maybe we get a soundtrack shot with a movie. And the last album we made was a departure. It was Neil [Schon‘s] ‘I wanna do one this way once’ — and so we did. Y’know, we did a heavy, rock n’ roll record. And it kinda wasn’t received very well here in the States and they kinda liked it in Europe and that’s kinda what I thought was gonna happen and it barely sold 100,000 [copies].”

Cain went on to explain that after “Eclipse” failed to score with both old fans and new converts, the entire band has had to pause and take stock of where they’re at creatively.

“After all that time and money, y’know, what are we doing here, y’know?” he said. “So, we have a great catalogue here, right now to play. We got a lot of songs that we’re not even playing. So, we’re like, ‘What’s the point of makin’ a new CD right now?’ Y’know, if anything, we’ll make an EP.”

JOURNEY will next appear on Thursday (March 7) with DEEP PURPLE in Perth, Australia.

Coming to theatres on Friday (March 8) in select cities — and available starting Saturday (March 9) on most On Demand services — is “Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey”.

The film chronicles the rags-to-riches story JOURNEY‘s current Steve Perry-sound-alike lead singer, Arnel Pineda, from his poverty stricken days in the Philippines to fronting the band today.

Running buck neked into 2013…

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Well 2012 is in the can. No New Year’s resolution here to make. Just some observations from last year.

nyedrunnFirst thing that comes to mind is that on the last day of the year a young and obviously clueless girl  at the bar my wife and I frequent was shocked to learn that my wife  and I have been married 24 years. This girl even had the silliness to ask if we still have sex like we are so old and tired of each other by now that we should hardly be communicating. She meant no harm and probably was a little punch drunk but it’s just a reflection on what is going on with the world today with our microwave society… (Editor’s note: A little rough language coming up in the next sentence…18+ please.)This girl’s idea I guess of a somewhat normal relationship was to cook and clean, make the bed and suck her man’s dick (her words not mine) and everything is ok in the world and never once did she mention the word “love”… But for us to be together for 24 years is unheard of in her book I guess or alot of other young peoples books for that matter… But I can name at least two more couples that have been married or dated since High school and are still together from my graduation class. This girl I guess thought it was wrong or maybe strange but in my mind I am thinking what does she do, change guys out every few months or years? What’s the worth in that? Hell, even Jon Bon Jovi has been married to his high school sweet heart since 1989…Not bashing her all this is just my observation.

Kickacts is now rolling into it’s fourth year. For 2012 it had over 1.4 million page hits and 82,000 + visitors and published over 1500 articles, interviews or stories…. Not bad for a website I just kinda toy with and wish I could do more with. I really need writers, and ad people to keep it going… I  think it would take off if the right people where involved in it. It is kinda  a running joke too that for the past 3 years during Halloween I have tried to interview  a psychic and to date no one has taken me up on it even though I am not out to expose anything. Just thought it would fit the season…

In March of 2012 my nephew David W. Gee jr (taylor) was killed in an accident in Afghanistan. That david_nwas a hard hit for me and my family. We had raised him for a while when he was younger. My wife and I were there when he was born. . I cried for at least a week pretty much uncontrollably. I felt bad for my brother and the far less than perfect life he had given his only son. I felt for my family and the loss of my kids’ cousin. He was just a kid and he died in a country that doesn’t give a rats ass about him or any other American that dies over there. I wish they would turn the country into glass. You can’t argue with someone that will blow themselves up just to prove a point. But he believed he was making a difference and that is all that matters. I won’t knock anyone that signs up for Military service. I am proud and grateful for their service. I still mourn the loss of my nephew and I still feel very pissed off and mad as hell over how dirty his step mom treated little David’s family as if we all didn’t exist or as lower classed citizens at best… Hopefully I will finish the book soon with the truth in it and that’s all I got to say for now. His is an American Hero and it needs to be said.

I got the honor of playing the Lane Goodwin benefit concert here in Henderson with my friend Kasper and some other great musicians. It clicked so well I thought the band would take off flying instantly. The chemistry was amazing… But as it goes, it fell apart pretty quick. Maybe fell apart isn’t the right term. It changed shapes. Nothing wrong with that and I wish all those guys the best. It can be a helluva a band.

lwgn

Speaking of bands and playing, I finally realized at 47 (after the last project changed shape) that even though I am 15 years old and in my living room listening to records every time I suit up and put a guitar on I am not 15 anymore in the world’s eyes. I am 47 and in most peoples eyes I am over the hill… Success in the music field has eluded me. I am not happy about it and still in disbelief about it. I know I am quite capable of being in another touring band and more but the cold hard facts are its probably not going to happen. I hate quitting at anything and have always taken playing music very seriously…so here I am at the cliff and not quitting but there is no where to go…I never wanted to be old and fat or bald and playing beat music in beat bands but it looks like I have no choice. Glad I never got fat or bald but for the rest of it….I just gotta say “Shit WTF? I would rather eat razors then give in…

We have three great grand kids and 1 due pretty much any day as I write this. It’s amazing to think that all this started with a friend giving me a ride home way back in 1982. Funny how life moves on while you are making other plans and now we have a pretty good sized quiver.

gfamn

Also, the last weekend before the end of the year my good friend Brian buried is lovely wife Wendy. She passed away from cancer. I was there when they met for the first time about 11 years ago, and when they got married and the day he had to lay her to rest. It was truly a sad day. But as my Aunt Lorraine put on her husband’s grave marker “I will meet you in the morning”. Brian will one day be reunited with her. Brian and his little girls could use some prayers so please remember them.

shen

I made some new friends over the last year. It’s hard for someone like to me to make friends and I am slowly learning how to tell them how much I appreciate them too. I guess it comes from self evaluating. I am trying to be more open and not so stand offish.

I also found out a side of me that I didn’t like (besides my appearance and everything else). One night recently at a bar i was listening to a great band hanging out with my wife Denise and friends, sharing drinks, laughing and carrying on as my little fingers were busy being an ass to some friends of mine via text. I wish I could blame an elf on the shelf but in reality. I t was me. And it was stupid and it was very embarrassing. I called them the next day after I reread what I had texted. There was no sense in any off it. I called them, asked for forgiveness and apologized… I hope it was enough but I don’t feel it was…I mean they accepted it but I hate that I did it.

whats in store for 2013?

I dunno but here I go. Still playing, still writing like it matters to someone and keeping the hair for now…I plan on going into old age kicking and screaming and being dragged by my feet, and nails dug into the floor all the way in.

As Commander Peter Quincy Taggert said in Galaxy Quest.

“Never give up. Never surrender.”

Ugly Kid Joe is seeking your help for a video shoot

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Reunited hard rockers UGLY KID JOE have launched a Kickstarter campaign to offer their fans the opportunity to get involved with the production of their music video for the song “I’m Alright” off their latest EP, “Stairway To Hell”.

Commented the band: “It has been a minute since our last music video, and we want to take it to the next level with this one. We’re going the independent route and only with your help and generosity can we make this thing happen.

“We have lots of cool merchandise, some very rare and limited, and even a special experience on the set to offer you.

“Your donations will go directly to the making of this video, from renting the gear to hiring a kick-ass crew and sending it through post-production to be completed.

“We can only do this with your help, so if you like what you see, go ahead and throw down what you can. We’re very excited to make this video… Let’s do this!”

Among the items offered through Kickstarter is to get a chance to meet UGLY KID JOE on tour in October. Other items include an opportunity to attend an UGLY KID JOE rehearsal with a friend in the U.S. and go out for dinner with the band afterwards.

This project will only be funded if at least $12,000 is pledged by Friday, October 12.

For more information, visit Kickstarter.
