Omoreka Band

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

Pearl jam, Foo Fighters, Accept. They are all hard hitting rock bands with a no bullshit attitude They play “real music”*

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Don’t give up when you realize that no one gives a shit. There are 7 billion people out there so there will always be some one out there that adores you. You just got to find them. But be patient. *

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

We played our first show ever opening for 3 Doors Down at a sold out 3000 capacity venue. That was pretty extreme. My mom didn’t have the guts to see the show lol. :o)*

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Peter-Start-Festival-700kWhen we played an acoustic set in San Antonio and there was a giant fan on stage that made it impossible to hear each other. I could only follow the vibrations on the floor but at one point I looked over my shoulder and saw that the band wasn’t playing the same song as I was!! Epic fail!!!*

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off I the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

I paint and draw portraits and build guitars. In fact the guitar I play live is home build. *

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

I think that the music scene is in bloom in general. It’s just harder to pick the prettiest because there are so many to choose from these days. The audience though should relearn that music is not for free just because there is so much of it! It is still hard work and it’s not getting easier with streaming and file sharing. *

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

I have no ideas what their hobbies are. We are all complete strangers to each other! I know that we all eat sleep and shit music 24-7 though :o)*

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

Mary Ann. I’m a brunette guy*

Omoreka

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

HEY YOUNG PEOPLE! BUY YOUR MUSIC AND HELP YOUR LOCAL BANDS! SPOTIFY AND OTHER STREAMING SERVICES DON’T PAY THE MUSICIANS. YOUR MONEY ENDS UP IN RIHANNAS WALLET IF ANY! *

James interviews Jeff Henson of Meganaut

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Thanks to James for the interview!

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

www.meganautmusic.com And I am Jeff Henson the frontman/founder of the

hard rock band.

logon

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

QOTSA is a big one, 70’s hard rock.. and also guys like nilsson, nick lowe,

and the like for their killer melodies.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Make a great sounding record, buy a van and get your ass on the road. Pitfalls…?

Not getting on the road or taking it seriously.. until you

do, you have a very very tiny shot at anything

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

Any night we are playing music in front of fans is the greatest gig to us.

Some obviously better than others, but we just like to play.

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Lol probly, maybe the time the ATF and FBI people busted into the bar and

shut it down an hour before we went on.. that was fun

Meganaut on frozen Lake

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

nope, i make music of all sorts and produce albums for other people… my

life is pretty much only music

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

all i’ll say is that we are on a self proclaimed mission to bring some

balls and strong melodies back to straight forward rock n roll.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

hmmm, we are really a boring, nerdy bunch of guys that geek out about music

and sometimes video games and iphone apps… pretty much music runs every

part of all of our lives.

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

Ginger, I’ve had a thing for redheads… although mary ann would probly be

a lot less drama

meganaut-wrigley-1

Our last question  is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

CALL YOUR RADIO STATION AND REQUEST BANDS LIKE MEGANAUT AND GO SEE LIVE

SHOWS. RADIO WILL PLAY GOOD MUSIC AGAIN IF WE YELL LOUD ENOUGH… YOU

WANNA BITCH ABOUT THE MUSIC SCENE.. THEN GO DO SOMETHING TO HELP CHANGE IT.

That loud enough? 🙂 thanks for the interview and for not asking 35

questions about what our favorite color is and shit like that. Much love*

James interviews Alexander “Motor” of GRENOVER from Russia!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

(Just for the record these guys are one bad ass freakin band! They are our brothers in ROCK!)

special thanks to James for the interview!

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

gren_nAlexander ‘Motor’ (guitars): Hi, folks! Really nice to meet you all and to talk for a while. I’m Alexander ‘Motor’, guitarist and co-songwriter of GRENOUER band. We play metal, rock or whatever you might call our mix. Google to find us or just go to the web-site www.grenouer.com and check links to our pages within the main social networks, we are very easy to get discovered. I am reckoned as a co-founder of GRENOUER, yet this is only partially true. In fact I joined the band in 1999 when GRENOUER were local death metal stars. In 2010 the frontman Andrey ‘Ind’ and me had to reassemble the band and the fact makes me definitely a co-founder of today’s GRENOUER. 14 years in a band is a not a joke anyway. I am aged 32, married.

https://www.facebook.com/Grenouer

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

alenMotor: I have a lot of musical heroes, music affairs are often very heroic. Maybe due to absolute dedication of many musicians. Like going on a questionable tour in an uncomfortable van. Influences? Naturally lots of them from David Bowie to GODFLESH! I started from classical BLACK SABBATH because my dad was into them, and they gave me good understanding of the power of minor key.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Motor: You need to have goals, both short-term and long-term. And you’d better be honest with yourself. It’s no use to waste time doing what you dislike and teaming up with people you have no evident sympathy for. The easiest way is to deal with true enthusiasts and skilled professionals. And you have to be severe with nobody else but yourself, don’t forget about self-education and personal development, get ready to spend money and to miss a lot of parties.

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

Motor: 2005, GRENOUER touring in Siberia, one of our gigs banned. It happened in Kemerovo city, promoters did their best to save the event but they couldn’t fight false denunciation in advocacy of violence. That felt like a real shock as if USSR days were back when playing rock music meant being illegal. Ticket were sold out and the house was expected to be totally full, yet the police guard at the venue “strangle evil at its birth”. A few hours later we were giving a secret show at a small studio for a very narrow circle of people, true underground resistance with very unusual feeling, still this incident is hard to compare with the folly case of PUSSY RIOT.

band_n

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Motor: A worse gig is when the feelings are missing. That might be for different reasons – unfair promoters, incorrect selection of bands, horrible sound… We always aim to pleasure fans in spite of any mess though. Oh, it has just occurred to me – the gig in Kirov city, we tested local beer and then had to carry toilet paper everywhere, even on stage!

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

Motor: My new hobby is checking out on-line training music courses, they save time and money. The latest one was from Berkley College of Music. Yeah, sometimes I draw apocalyptic pictures with a pencil, I wish I could tell that I draw them on boobs.

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

Motor: I like that the present music scene is so huge, for everyone’s taste. In my opinion the era of decent albums is returning. And I am happy that I am on stage while a lot of friendly bands just gave up for nothing.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

Motor: At one gig afterparty I fell asleep earlier than others and charitable guys covered me with a bicycle instead of a blanket. So, I must be a decent cyclist now. Our bass player Daemon was recently employed in the position of the exterminator fighting with insects and rodents. That caused a lot of jokes about moles, well, moles are funnier than rats. Andrey ‘Ind’, lead singer, used to work as a teacher at school, he had to wake up very early in the morning. One of the mornings he was arrested by mistake for a kindergarten robbery. Spent several hours at the police station, was questioned and then dismissed unbeaten. One of the criminating evidences was a stolen vibrator. Drummer Danny had a cute girlfriend who was fond of clay modeling. One fine day Danny made a sculpture with a huge dick and that sculpture caused a furor at the party. The guests eagerly embraced it, took pictures, unfortunately Instagram didn’t exits then.

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

Motor: I never watched “Gilligan’s Island”, but I can answer in relation to “Moonlighting”. Choosing between Bruce Willis, Cybill Shepherd and Allyce Beasley I will never think of Bruce Willis. Just because he is half-German!

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

Motor: I will highly enjoy YOU shouting one of GRENOUER’s song! “Blood on the Face” suits that fairly well!

CFF_8011

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

We are a folk-rock-alternative acoustic trio out of the Carolinas.  Laura Clinton-singer/songwriter, keys, acoustic guitar/

Jesse Thomas-Electric Guitar/ Tim Trammel-percussionist

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

Patty Griffin, Ani Difranco, Damien Rice, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Jeff Buckley, Springsteen, The Eagles, Incubus…bands and singer/songwriters who write their own music have inspired us all.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

If the desire is in you to make music, do it!  We all went to college, got jobs, and lived with regret until now.  Go for it when you are young…there is always time for a 9-5.  Avoid the pitfall of saying so and so is better, so why even try…don’t listen, someone will like what you create.

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

Playing the TEDx after party in our town was pretty incredible for a first time gig!  I was so intimidated, but honored at the same time!

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Worse gig, turned out to be a good night in the long run…it was a cold, rainy, February eve, we had a steady audience throughout the night of about 10-15 folks…but Tim approached us after that gig asking if we needed a drummer, so it turned out to be not so bad after all.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

I teach yoga, 3rd grade, and have a child.

Tim is an engineer, and Jesse is a comic artist who does draw boobs at times.  I can get you a drawing.

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

The scene in the Upstate of SC  is growing, and down in Charleston, it is smoking!

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

Laura-certified yoga teacher

Tim-will wrap your body

Jesse-has his own comic book series

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

I am all about the professor…

Our last question  is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

JS Farm Jazz

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

Carl Perkins-legendary Sun Records rockabilly singer / guitarist, wrote and performed ‘Blue Suade Shoes’, ‘Matchbox’, ‘Put Your Cat Clothes On’, and many others.

John Lennon-Beatle was amazing vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter. Helped to change world culture…peace & love.

Beach Boys-Brian Wilson amazing vocalist and songwriter / producer and arranger. Epitomizes the Southern California life style.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Stay true to yourself!

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

One time I opened for Morrisey in Tijuana, Mexico. Very strange gig…

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

All the ‘exposure shows’ waiting around some dive bar or venue with 3 or 4 other bands only to go up and play a set and then tear down as fast as possible. Just as ugly: most ‘door’ gigs.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

I do love boobies! Yeah, I’m an avid jogger, play basketball and love to body surf.

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

San Diego always has had great venue’s that promote original music.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

Eric Hutchinson, our guitarist,  teaches kids drums. Dave Votel our bassist plays in a jazz combo. Alejandro Aste-Nieto our piano player is a great guitarist who fronts his own band.

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

Mrs Howell? That’s creepy…personally I’d like to see Ginger get it on with Mary Ann.

. # 10 is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

Look for Jackslacks new CD ‘Generations Hypnotized’ due out May 1, 2013 on indie label Shield Of Love.

Kickacts interviews Anja McCloskey

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Special thanks to James Lowe of Transmedia World Wide!

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

I am a German-American singer-songwriter and accordionist signed to Sotones Records. I spent the last 10 years in the UK, but am currently touring the US. You can find me here:

www.anjamccloskey.co.uk

www.facebook.com/anjamccloskey

www.myspace.com/anjamccloskey

www.twitter.com/anja_mccloskey

www.anjamccloskey.blogspot.com

anja_n

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

I think my influences are a mad concoction of the music I was exposed to when growing up in 80s Germany, when studying in the ever so eclectic London, and when spending time in the American Mid-West. I was a teenager before the internet was popular, so it was very hard to find underground or alternative music. When the internet finally did come along and I moved to London, it was almost overwhelming. I worked with many different bands and musicians, and I am sure that their approach to songwriting has influenced me somehow. But I was also influenced by other artists who chose the accordion as their main instrument. It showed me that accordion could be cool and interesting.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

I think gigging is the most important element of starting out as a musician. Play as many concerts as possible, build up your audience and your confidence. And always be polite! You never know when you will meet people again.

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

When I released my debut album “An Estimation”, we had a homecoming gig in Southampton, England, for which we hired an old castle ruin in the city. It was so beautiful. We ended up playing under the stars and it was such an intimate and special experience. I wish I could do it again some day.

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Every musician will have stories like these. I have played in many peculiar venues and sometimes under difficult circumstances, but I won’t name and shame J

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

I collect match boxes actually… But apart from that I am also into photography and writing and I love going to the theatre.

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

I have had a very positive experience. My label Sotones Records is a very collaborative label and the musicians signed to it are encouraged to work together and share skills. I have made fantastic friends on the label and you just feel that people have your back. We always play on each others’ records and do concerts together and I am lucky to have such a supportive network of fellow musicians.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…headn

Well as a solo performer I will have to talk about myself… Hm, I am generally a little bit peculiar, so there are many things I could tell you. I once wrote a letter to Kenneth Branagh, after seeing him play Edmond at the National Theatre in London. He wrote back and I have kept the letter to this day!

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

You know, I have no idea. I am not much of a TV person and I have to admit, I have never ever watched Gilligan’s Island…

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

You should take the time to check out some of my label mates at Sotones Records. They are all wonderful. In fact, my label mates Etao Shin and I released a joint Christmas single in December, which you download for free here: https://soundcloud.com/anjamccloskey/eato-shin-anja-mccloskey-red

Kickacts interviews Tatiana!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Recently James Lowe from Kickacts Magazine sat down with one of the very exciting artists on the scene. The following is a written interview we conducted with the artist while they were working on their next CD and Tour.

First off I want to thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk to us here today, as i know our readers have been requesting us get you in here some how some way. You folks have been described by your fans as internet sensations. In this interview we will attempt to figure out how this artist became such a great performer and what they have going forward.

James

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

I’m self-taught.  Multi-instrumentalist- I write/produce/mix everything myself, and write for film/game as well.  I started when I was around 13.

www.tatianad.com — my “official” site

tati.bandcamp.com — You can buy music

 Is it Tati, or Tatiana

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

I picked up a guitar when I was 13 because of Billy Corgan.   Danny Elfman is probably a bigger influence on why I write for film;  Pee-wee’s Big Adventure was my favorite movie as a kid;  Pee-Wee was my hero.  😛  Besides those two, I’m basically a musical sponge-

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Develop a thick skin;  No matter how good (or bad) you are, not everyone will like what you do at some point, and there are those who will go out of their way to bring you down-  You will never be everyone’s cup of tea.  Work on liking yourself, and your own music, and listen to those who give you CONSTRUCTIVE criticism above all.  And, as the old adage goes, “If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.”  Start with perfecting your “sound.”

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

Playing the Star Spangled Banner on guitar when I was 17 (I did this for a few different shows) is pretty memorable.  I can’t remember the significance, but people really seemed to dig that-

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worst gig” ever story.

“Proper preparation prevents poor performance”…. My FX processor’s battery died just before I was supposed to play the above-mentioned for a showcase opening.  *face palm* I didn’t have the adapter with me, or spare 9-volts.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

fHooray for boobies!  I used to draw them on walls as a kid, and at school in kindergarten (I guess I’ve always been a pervert), but nothing as of late.  I do, however, paint and I’ve been a professional actor since my teen years (Though I haven’t had paying work in awhile).  I had a painting in an art exhibit at Altered Esthetics gallery here in Minneapolis, back in August.  That was an interesting experience.

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

Oy ve… I think there are some amazing artists out there, doing some amazing things and making their mark.  There are always unique, and wonderful things happening within the music world.  I also think that we live in an age where anyone with a computer and loop-based software can be called an “artist,” which is disconcerting, to say the least.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

I used to be a cheerleader.  Freshman year, Patrick Henry Highschool.  Nyuck-

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell Ginger….

I consider sex with another redhead borderline incestuous;  It would be pure novelty. hahaha-

Our last one is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD!

BUY MY MUSIC!!! BUY MY MUSIC!!!  SUPPORT INDIE SELF-PRODUCED ARTISTS!!!Hahahahahahaha-

www.tatianad.com

This was fun-

 Tatiana Dadovich

Please re post and share! thanks 🙂

Interview with Author Chris Delaney

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Hi Chris and thank you for joining us today. So your book the 73 rules for influencing the interview using psychology, nlp and hypnotic persuasion techniques , can it really help me secure more job offers?

First thank you for inviting me down for this interview. As we all know competition is at an all time high due to the world wide recession and global competition for all jobs, the techniques in the book are designed to give the interviewee the edge over other applicants by using psychology, nlp and hypnotic language.

Well that sounds a bit Derren Brown to me, does it work?

As you can see from Derren Brown’s TV shows these techniques do work, I’m not saying you go into an interview and put the interviewer into a deep trance or for that matter I’m not saying you need to pull out a gold watch saying “hire me, hire me” if you do that your most likely going to be asked to leave. In the book you will learn how to understand the employer’s personality type, what motivates them and how to persuade and influence them.

So, once you know the interviewers personality type you can manipulate them?

Everyone filters information differently, some get bored with detail and just need an overview, while others get stressed or Read more…
