Ten questions with “Dynasty Electric”!
Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and where you can be found at on the web.
Jenny: Hello everyone J I love life- music, art, nature, beautiful people. Seth & I run an artist friendly community-centric label called NewSonic. I sing and play theremin in our band Dynasty Electric. http://www.dynastyelectric.net/
Seth: We’re an electronic duo from New York City. Find us on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, iTunes and SoundCloud.
Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?
Seth: The Beatles have been a major influence on both of us, both musically and spiritually. When we first started the project we were listening to artists like Bjork, Gang of Four, Radiohead, Talking Heads, and Gorillaz.
Jenny: I’ve always been so inspired by Bjork. She is a pure channel for cosmic creativity- always ahead of the curve and always genuine.
Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?
Jenny: Believe in yourself. Develop your own unique gifts. Don’t compare yourself to others.
Seth: First of all, do it for the love. Secondly, don’t give up. Quitting won’t get you anywhere, just stick to it if you want to succeed.
Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?
Jenny: Opening up for Girltalk at Summerfest, Milwaukee was an incredible experience. The energy was electrifying.
Seth: Recently we were performing at the Zeiterion Theater in New Bedford, Massachusetts at the Connecting For Change Conference. The crowd rushed on to the stage and started dancing like crazy during our set. I think we had about 50 people up on the stage, it was wild!
Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?
Jenny: I love photography and creating visual projections. I’ve also recently become a video editor. I’m thrilled about how “Supersonic” came out.
Seth: We practice yoga and mantra meditation. We have a growing collection of Tibetan singing bowls.
What do you think about the present music scene or lack of?
Seth: We have been focused on building our own label and musical community in New York City called NewSonic. We believe it’s important for musicians to come together and to expand opportunities rather than competing against each other for scarce resources.
Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… (Like their hobbies or something like that)
Jenny: I crochet hats and magic capes.
Seth: I love creative cooking. I want to start my own vegetarian restaurant chain.
Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls. Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?
Jenny: Ginger- Love the red hair and the leopard prints.
Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s where you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”
Our new album “Euphoria” is out now. It was crowd-funded and co-produced with producers from the UK, France, Italy, Jamaica, Canada, India, Japan, and NYC. Check out the video for the new lead single “Supersonic”
Thank you!

Attention Nashville/LA/Hollywood/ and life. At 41 he is
Still relevant. That is Eminem. Of course he established himself at around 27 years old. But he currently has the # 1 single in the Country…
So when Nashville, Los Angeles, Hollywood or life in general thinks everyone over 30 is washed up and too old to have a career I say to them they can kiss my ass…Do you agree? Don’t put an age or a limit on your dream or your life for that matter. I am 48 and I see so many people my age literally just dry up and die but go on just “existing”. They have no ambition, no desire. They are stuck in the matrix. They sit at home like elderly people and don’t live. We all know too many people that have already died and I bet if they could talk to them they would say “Just live”. Run another mile, play kick the can, go to the park, let your hair down a little and most importantly of all, get your ass in gear, life is too short. Chase the dream. Chase life. I see on Facebook over and over, people that are my age or at least close to my age barely living and looking like they are 100 years old. They are beaten…Some on disability and don’t need it. Some taking Xanax,Vyvanse or Lartabs just to get up or to go to bed or just to deal with life in general. I gotta say WTF…Where is the kid in you? Did you kill it? Did you let someone else kill it?What the hell you gonna do ten years from now? Look worse? Still have a flat spot on your ass from sitting? Be on what ever hot website at the moment still talking/whing about “dealing with it”…What ever “Dealing with it” means???
Anyway…I get depressed but I snap out of it. and on my own I might add. I am not taking meds “to get by”…Medical meds are one thing, meds to get you “going” is a totally different monster…Dye your hair if you have to..put some paint on the barn… Live..Chase your dreams…As Morgan’s Freeman’s character “Red” in the “Shawshank Redemption” said…”Get busy living or get busy dying”…Most of you have been dying long enough…
And back to my original theme… Eminem is over 40 and making music and has a #1 song in Country…He is still kicking it so why can’t you…or me???
Here are a few more examples.
Toni Basil. The “Hey Mickey” song. Almost 40 when that song hit big.
Meredith Brooks. The “I’m A Bitch” song from 1997. Was 40 when that song hit it big.
Susan Boyle. At 48, she changed how the world saw her and people like her. I still get chill bumps as I watch the video of her singing “I dreamed a dream” on “Britain’s got talent”. All the judges including Simon Cowell thought they would have a laugh at her expense. In stead, she dropped them dead in their places with her magical voice. Clearly showing you cannot judge a book by its cover …or age.
So… I just kicked the can into your court…What you gonna do about it? Get busy living or get busy dying????
Here is Eminem’s new video featuring Rihanna.

Ten Questions with “The Brothers Rigney”
Recently James Lowe from Kickacts Magazine sat down with one of the very exciting artists on the scene. The following is a written interview we conducted with the artist while they were working on their next CD and Tour. First off
Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.
The Brothers Rigney is a rock duo based out of Austin, TX. The founding members, Paul and Bryan, are brothers and form the core of this eclectic, melodic rock project. Come visit us at www.thebrothersrigney.com or www.facebook/thebrothersrigney to read the full story, see pictures and listen to our music.
Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?
Our musical heros include anybody who has ever picked up an instrument and made a living. Guitar influences such as Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page and Bass influences ranging from Jaco Pastorius to Flea. All of these people studied and mastered their craft and were able to share it with the rest of us.
Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?
Hang in there. It’s a marathon, not a race. Don’t get greedy and chase money. Do it because you love it or don’t do it at all.
Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?
We were doing a gig early on and the drummer who was sitting had a monster case of stage jitters. We started the set and noticed that we were going way too fast. We tried to signal him to slow down but he just kept going faster. Between songs we tried talking to him but it only got worse. By the time the set was over, we had played an hour’s worth of music in 40 minutes. We called it our Alvin and the Chipmunks night.
On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.
The worst gig ever was an outdoor gig we did one October in Texas. Fall is generally mild in Texas and a great time of year to be outside. It figures that a cold front would blow in and drop the temp 20 degrees during the gig. Our hands nearly froze to the frets.
Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?
We are great fans of boobs, but aren’t sure we can consider that a hobby. Does playing a different instrument count?
What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?
It’s growing like wildfire. There’s far more opportunity than just a few years ago. Thanks to social media and the proliferation of quality tools to create and record, anybody with skill can now get involved in music.
Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…
Paul is a certified mechanical watchmaker. It’s pretty uncommon and he’s great at fixing our stuff.
Bryan really loves his cat. He spoils her and calls her his Princess.
Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?
Paul says he into Mary Ann because a good farm raised gal will take care of you on a cold night.
Bryan says that all three are too tall, but in a pinch he’d go with Ginger because she’d laugh at his jokes.
Our last question called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!
Just buy the album. The more you buy, the more we play, write and play some more. With a little luck, we’ll be able to do our writing in the islands. So please, buy the album.

KickActs interviews Murray “The MaddDawg” Carter
Roadies. Over worked and under paid. Every band needs them and relies on them. They break their backs so you don’t have to. You think Mick Jagger would still be kicking it on stage at 69 if he had to load in and load out all his gear?
They are the underdogs of the music business. The real hero’s of the show. They are like the Elves in the fable “The Elves and the Shoemaker”. They are there before the crowd is and there long after the band leaves. Jackson Browne sung about it in “The Load Out” song too.
“Now the seats are all empty
Let the roadies take the stage
Pack it up and tear it down
They’re the first to come and last to leave
Working for that minimum wage”
If you are fortunate to have good friends that will help load in and load out it’s also a bonus. Such is my long time friend Murray. Neither one of us actually found huge success in what we love to do which is music but had a lot of fun trying to over the years. Murray both has roadied for me and we have sung together in a band. Here is his story.
chuck
Hello Murray and welcome to Kickacts. We go back a long way, really way back to the old Ross Theater days when they played live bands in the early 80’s. Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you up to.
I guess you can say that I really like music 80’s hair bands the most you know Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt and so on. Not much just booking a few local bands like The Hollywood Gutter Ratts and getting older. I don’t do too much since I had a heart attack last August.
You enjoy being around music and helping bands. Give us an idea of the sort of things you do for bands.
I really do enjoy music and being around bands. The one thing that I enjoy doing for bands is getting them gig’s and running sound for them also, help them set up their gear.
What is your opinion (I know you have experienced this in the past). Where bands want their gear loaded in and set up and then loaded out but didn’t want to pay you. Care to address that?
It really suck’s when you bust your ass setting up their gear which sometimes takes awhile depending on how much shit they have then to tear it all down and load it all it to a van that’s too fuckn small and have to stuff it in. And then the dick head’s don’t wanna pay you for busting your ass helping them for nothing. It really pisses me off quick really fast. You feel like kicking them in the balls.
You also sing. Tell us a little bit about that.
Yeah I do sing a little. The first band that I ever sung for was The Yellow Short Bus Band with my best friend Chuck Gee the owner of this magazine and a dude named Derek. It was a lot of fun times. It was also awesome cause we played for free beer so we got wasted a lot. I really remember this one time me and Chuck and his wife Denise and my ole lady Trina went to one of the bars that we played a bunch of times everyone in the bar bought us like 40 beers and yes we got wasted. When we finally left old Chuck puked his guts out about 10 times I laughed my ass off at him. Sorry Chuck lol.
Tell us some high lights of your career whether singing or roadie.
Well a while back the Kentucky Headhunters played in Henderson and I got to help load their gear for them it was awesome. Heck they even afford me job going on the road with them as a roadie but couldn’t go because I was married and had kids at home so I didn’t. My singing career was awesome too just didn’t last but about 4 months.
You spent the whole day hanging with Faster Pussycat. Can you tell us about that?
Let’s see hanging with FPC. It was a great experience got to meet them all of course and we got to drive them to the mall here in Owensboro ky and I got to set in on their meet n greet which was killer. Then we drove them to get tattoos and go out to eat with them. Then I got to hang out in their tour bus for awhile and drink a little with them also. It was a lot of fun.
Favorite band?
Old school Motley Crue!!!!!
You also attend a biker church. Tell us about that.
I attend Soldiers For Christ motorcycle ministry here in Owensboro ky. They do a lot for this community with folks kids. Raise money for people that cant afford toys for their kids at Christmas time it really cool.
You know I am going there so here we go. Ross Theater, maybe 1982? A few too many beers in your mohawked young ass belly. And probably what, your first roadie experience. What happened?
What happened you got me super fucked up that’s bad you getting a 16yr old wasted just kidding. But yes I was way wasted on suds and I got really sick in Brad Hatfield parents car. That’s not the bad part his dad was a Pentecostal preacher lmao. 20 something yrs later you always bring it up.
This question is called “Shout it Out loud”. So go ahead Murray, and “Shout it out Loud”!
CHUCK GEE IS THE BADEST MOTHERFUCKER’N GUITAR PLAYER IN THE WORLD,AND A KILLER BESTFRIEND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
BONUS VIDEO!
I few years ago I had an 80’s tribute band called “The Metal Masscarade Ball”
band. Murray dressed up as an evil clown and came out of a huge toy box and passed out black roses to the crowd! It was cool as hell! Turn down your speakers its pretty loud and distorted but cool to watch!
