Super bowl Half Time show…
Up first just to clear the air. I am not an old fogy…I stay current on music, news, technology, etc. So even though I am not a big sports fan I was at my son in laws house so the game was on. Now I have watched the halftime shows before and like a lot of other people that aren’t interested in the game I will watch the commercials or catch them on line the next day. But it so happens I was present during the game and got to watch the half time “Show”.
As far a Beyonce’s performance. It was dance routine to canned music. Lots of light and flash….No substance. She may have actually sang 20 words from her prerecorded songs pumped through the P.A…The only thing missing was Dionne Warwick introducing her and the other solid gold dancers…
I will admit she is good on the eyes but hell, any old penthouse or playboy back in the day would have done the same thing for me…I won’t say she is a talentless, but i will say the half time show was lame as hell and it didn’t have to be a classic rock band like “The Who” or KISS. Or Madonna for that matter. But when are we as an “Audience” going to to demand people that entertain us to be “real”. She was nothing more than a “mime”. Like most other artists these days. They lip sing and play over prerecorded music and we call it art…
from Wikipedia…
A mime artist (from Greek “μίμος”—mimos, “imitator, actor”)[1] is someone who uses mime as a theatrical medium or as a performance art, involving miming, or the acting out a story through body motions, without use of speech.
I don’t want people to hate on her or anyone for that matter. But what I would like is for them to be real. Stop the faking it and you young kids stop eating spoon feed candy coated junk. You should think more of your selves than that…

Here is the Beyonce’s performance… Just mute the volume she doesn’t sing much anyway so you’re not missing anything…

Running buck neked into 2013…
Well 2012 is in the can. No New Year’s resolution here to make. Just some observations from last year.
First thing that comes to mind is that on the last day of the year a young and obviously clueless girl at the bar my wife and I frequent was shocked to learn that my wife and I have been married 24 years. This girl even had the silliness to ask if we still have sex like we are so old and tired of each other by now that we should hardly be communicating. She meant no harm and probably was a little punch drunk but it’s just a reflection on what is going on with the world today with our microwave society… (Editor’s note: A little rough language coming up in the next sentence…18+ please.)This girl’s idea I guess of a somewhat normal relationship was to cook and clean, make the bed and suck her man’s dick (her words not mine) and everything is ok in the world and never once did she mention the word “love”… But for us to be together for 24 years is unheard of in her book I guess or alot of other young peoples books for that matter… But I can name at least two more couples that have been married or dated since High school and are still together from my graduation class. This girl I guess thought it was wrong or maybe strange but in my mind I am thinking what does she do, change guys out every few months or years? What’s the worth in that? Hell, even Jon Bon Jovi has been married to his high school sweet heart since 1989…Not bashing her all this is just my observation.
Kickacts is now rolling into it’s fourth year. For 2012 it had over 1.4 million page hits and 82,000 + visitors and published over 1500 articles, interviews or stories…. Not bad for a website I just kinda toy with and wish I could do more with. I really need writers, and ad people to keep it going… I think it would take off if the right people where involved in it. It is kinda a running joke too that for the past 3 years during Halloween I have tried to interview a psychic and to date no one has taken me up on it even though I am not out to expose anything. Just thought it would fit the season…
In March of 2012 my nephew David W. Gee jr (taylor) was killed in an accident in Afghanistan. That was a hard hit for me and my family. We had raised him for a while when he was younger. My wife and I were there when he was born. . I cried for at least a week pretty much uncontrollably. I felt bad for my brother and the far less than perfect life he had given his only son. I felt for my family and the loss of my kids’ cousin. He was just a kid and he died in a country that doesn’t give a rats ass about him or any other American that dies over there. I wish they would turn the country into glass. You can’t argue with someone that will blow themselves up just to prove a point. But he believed he was making a difference and that is all that matters. I won’t knock anyone that signs up for Military service. I am proud and grateful for their service. I still mourn the loss of my nephew and I still feel very pissed off and mad as hell over how dirty his step mom treated little David’s family as if we all didn’t exist or as lower classed citizens at best… Hopefully I will finish the book soon with the truth in it and that’s all I got to say for now. His is an American Hero and it needs to be said.
I got the honor of playing the Lane Goodwin benefit concert here in Henderson with my friend Kasper and some other great musicians. It clicked so well I thought the band would take off flying instantly. The chemistry was amazing… But as it goes, it fell apart pretty quick. Maybe fell apart isn’t the right term. It changed shapes. Nothing wrong with that and I wish all those guys the best. It can be a helluva a band.
Speaking of bands and playing, I finally realized at 47 (after the last project changed shape) that even though I am 15 years old and in my living room listening to records every time I suit up and put a guitar on I am not 15 anymore in the world’s eyes. I am 47 and in most peoples eyes I am over the hill… Success in the music field has eluded me. I am not happy about it and still in disbelief about it. I know I am quite capable of being in another touring band and more but the cold hard facts are its probably not going to happen. I hate quitting at anything and have always taken playing music very seriously…so here I am at the cliff and not quitting but there is no where to go…I never wanted to be old and fat or bald and playing beat music in beat bands but it looks like I have no choice. Glad I never got fat or bald but for the rest of it….I just gotta say “Shit WTF? I would rather eat razors then give in…
We have three great grand kids and 1 due pretty much any day as I write this. It’s amazing to think that all this started with a friend giving me a ride home way back in 1982. Funny how life moves on while you are making other plans and now we have a pretty good sized quiver.
Also, the last weekend before the end of the year my good friend Brian buried is lovely wife Wendy. She passed away from cancer. I was there when they met for the first time about 11 years ago, and when they got married and the day he had to lay her to rest. It was truly a sad day. But as my Aunt Lorraine put on her husband’s grave marker “I will meet you in the morning”. Brian will one day be reunited with her. Brian and his little girls could use some prayers so please remember them.
I made some new friends over the last year. It’s hard for someone like to me to make friends and I am slowly learning how to tell them how much I appreciate them too. I guess it comes from self evaluating. I am trying to be more open and not so stand offish.
I also found out a side of me that I didn’t like (besides my appearance and everything else). One night recently at a bar i was listening to a great band hanging out with my wife Denise and friends, sharing drinks, laughing and carrying on as my little fingers were busy being an ass to some friends of mine via text. I wish I could blame an elf on the shelf but in reality. I t was me. And it was stupid and it was very embarrassing. I called them the next day after I reread what I had texted. There was no sense in any off it. I called them, asked for forgiveness and apologized… I hope it was enough but I don’t feel it was…I mean they accepted it but I hate that I did it.
whats in store for 2013?
I dunno but here I go. Still playing, still writing like it matters to someone and keeping the hair for now…I plan on going into old age kicking and screaming and being dragged by my feet, and nails dug into the floor all the way in.
As Commander Peter Quincy Taggert said in Galaxy Quest.
“Never give up. Never surrender.”

ABBA’S MUSIC PRESENTS A FREE WORKSHOP FROM SPECTOR BASS COMPANY
WITH
DAVE FOWLER
Dave Fowler bio
Dave knew from a very young age that he wanted to be a bass player. Growing up and playing with musicians like Warren Haynes in Western North Carolina helped Dave understand the importance of being a bass player and the role a bassist must play to be in successful bands.
Dave attributes much of his seat of the pants education by playing with older more experienced player as a teenager and always listening to what was going on around him…of course being able to work with names like Dolly Parton, Cinderella, Billy Ray Cyrus, Tracy Lawrence, Lorrie Morgan, Dottie West, Edwin McCain, legendary producer Bill Szymczyk (The Eagles) and many others require just as much in the “people skills” area as the playing side of things. That is what you will be able to learn @ Dave’s clinics for Spector basses. He will give you a information on how to play your instrument and make a living doing it. Dave’s entire approach is seat of the pants hardcore learning how to do it the hard way…and you can cash in on his experience by attending his clinic at ABBA’S MUSIC, 7 PM THURSDAY NOV. 15. Dave has a wealth of information in addition to his playing skills–topics covered will be informational to all players, keyboardist, guitarist and singers as well as bass players. Information such as the Nasville numbering system, how to make a living in the music business, studio production, session work, and Dave will answer any questions you might have.

My review of Kiss’s new album “MONSTER”
So there is a leaked copy of it floating around the net, so I checked it out…
First off. I am a huge KISS fan from way back when they ruled the world. I stuck with them from ALIVE 1and through the disco era “Dynasty” which I thought was a great album by the way. I even forgave them for the “Unmasked” album which did have a couple of good songs on it. One being “A world without Heroes”. I even stuck by them and watched them “unmask” on MTV like millions of other people did. I was in there when Peter quit/got canned and I continued going to see them despite Eric Carr (GOD rest his soul) playing wayyyy to fast on the drums. I was at the show in Evansville Indiana when Vinnie ( plays too fast too) Vincent pushed his amps over and KISS left his ass in parking lot and moved on after the show. I hung in there. I was still there when Grudge took over and songs like “Unholy” was blasting on the radio. Great stuff. Then came the farewell tour. I was still there. I remember Julio Wallace and me driving all night back from a gig in Michigan just to get to Evansville the next day to catch the show.
Then came the extended farewell tour. And another tour. Hell, I even bought the new KISS comics. Then came Psycho Circus”. I even got that. Then Peter and Ace quit/got canned. I get all that. That’s business. I didn’t like it but its not my business. And then my hope and loyalty started waning…But I still went and saw the show.
Then came KISS “Boom”. more like a fizzle…. Not the band I grew up basically worshiping. More tours, more merchandise, etc. I get it but I no longer subscribe to it. Maybe I am growing up. I wish I wasn’t. I mean this is the band I would have, like most kids my age back in the late 70’s. would have helped KISS invade a small Country if they asked us to.
And now “MONSTER”. The hype machine is in full swing. “It’s a classic KISS album”. “Just four guys writing together”. etc, etc, etc…
So I checked out the leaked copy. You know what? MONSTER should have been called MONSTER LAME”. The song “Hell or Hallelujah”. That’s a great song. Reminds me of the KISS I grew up with. But after that the album just loses steam, tanks and falls over dead. I hear a bunch of fillers and songs they will never play again.
Maybe its time bands just released powerful singles one at time. The old album way of doing things is over. I am sad about it. But the songs just don’t hold up. No hits…
I don’t expect KISS to reinvent the wheel. I know they are no longer starving and it shows. A band that is starving has the “Us against the world attitude”. KISS doesn’t has that. They haven’t had it for a long time. It’s not their fault. They have been mega successful. But I think its time to hand the baton off to someone else as bad as I hate to say that. I will go ahead and say Motley Crue needs to do the same thing but that’s another story.
So to finish off my review. KISS meant everything music to me. This album doesn’t cut it. Save your money or do something good with it. Maybe send it to “Wounded Warriors” in honor of KISS. KISS Supports that group and I commend them on that.
tears are falling…
I miss my KISS…
sincerely,
chuck

Ugly Kid Joe is seeking your help for a video shoot
Reunited hard rockers UGLY KID JOE have launched a Kickstarter campaign to offer their fans the opportunity to get involved with the production of their music video for the song “I’m Alright” off their latest EP, “Stairway To Hell”.
Commented the band: “It has been a minute since our last music video, and we want to take it to the next level with this one. We’re going the independent route and only with your help and generosity can we make this thing happen.
“We have lots of cool merchandise, some very rare and limited, and even a special experience on the set to offer you.
“Your donations will go directly to the making of this video, from renting the gear to hiring a kick-ass crew and sending it through post-production to be completed.
“We can only do this with your help, so if you like what you see, go ahead and throw down what you can. We’re very excited to make this video… Let’s do this!”
Among the items offered through Kickstarter is to get a chance to meet UGLY KID JOE on tour in October. Other items include an opportunity to attend an UGLY KID JOE rehearsal with a friend in the U.S. and go out for dinner with the band afterwards.
This project will only be funded if at least $12,000 is pledged by Friday, October 12.
For more information, visit Kickstarter.
